Antonio Lotti’s oratorio L’umitta coronata, to a libretto by Pietro Pariati (based on the biblical story of Esther), was the first performed at the Imperial court Chapel in Vienna 1714. This study examines Lotti’s music for this oratorio volgare with the context of the development of the Viennese oratorio. |
