THESIS CONTENT
Abstract: A study of the polychoral style in two works by Schütz: Wo der Herr nicht das Haus bauet (Psalm 127, SWV 473) and Herr, der du bist vormals genädig gewest deinem Lande (Psalm 85, SWV 461). The two works, which are both large scale settings for double chorus, two violins, three trombones and continuo, are compared and contrasted in order to explore the composer’s evolving polychoral mastery and compositional development.
