THESIS CONTENT
Abstract: Compositions for the harpsichord in Ireland began to emerge during the second half of this century. These works make use of both 'authentic' and modern instruments. An investigation of the suitability of this new music to the different models of harpsichord is one of the main themes of this dissertation. Individual composers and their works for harpsichord are assessed, with their understanding of the instrument and its capabilities inevitably determining the quality of the music written for it.
