| Abstract: |
The edition is derived from a publication by Jean-Georges Sieber in Paris (1773). A biographical sketch and an overview of his music are also undertaken. This pays particular attention to the clarinet and its status during the latter half of the 18th century. The contribution of the Mannheim school is also examined as well as the importance of Joseph Beer and other players of the period. The edition contains a stylistic analysis of the quartets, problems with editing them, and a critical commentary. |
