Abstract: Heinrich Bewerunge was a leading figure in the reform of sacred music in late nineteenth and early twentieth-century Ireland. This thesis considers a number of the arrangements and transcriptions of music by Palestrina which Bewerunge prepared for the use of the seminary choir at Maynooth. The historical background to Bewerunge and the reforms of sacred music are outlined and the methods used in adapting Palestrina's music are examined in detail.
