| Abstract: |
Through the coupling of the MP3 format and the Internet, a new distribution network for music has emerged. In the new paradigm, the roles of various participants are in a state of flux: consumers have found a powerful new means of accessing music and piracy has become a prominent activity; industry has been faced with a formidable challenge and has responsded with mixed results; artists have discovered the opportunities presented by self-distribution. This dissertation examines the likely implications for the music business of the repositioning of these elements and explores the synergies that are developing between them. |
