| Abstract: |
The proposed research will investigate the role which gender plays in the experience of performance anxiety as experienced by female operatic vocalists. It will seek to examine the effects of lifestyle pregnancy, delivery and hormonal changes on the integrity of the vocal instrument and to what extent gender determines the ability to cope with stress. Common difficulties identified in previous research relating to performance crisis will be examined including injury, age related degradation of the vocal instrument and psychological difficulties not connected to vocal integrity. Current developments and research in related specialisms, which have applications for singer/performers will be investigated. |
