Abstract: This dissertation explores the music policies of three commercial radio stations in Ireland. There is particular reference as to what defines a commercial radio station and how radio stations operate in terms of music scheduling and programming.
The researcher reviews current literature relating to commercial radio stations and outlines the information discovered in order to provide a clear insight into this subject area.
The primary method of data collection is the interview. A particular aspect of this research was to gain information from personnel working within the choesen commercial radio stations and for this reason personal interviews were conducted.
The research findings confirm that music policies are an essential requirement of a commercial radio station. The importance of music, particularly scheduling the music that your audience wants to hear is revealed by professionals working within the radio industry.
Findings clearly illustrate how music policies are implements and fulfilled and the clear need for guidelines within a commercial radio station. Overall an insight into the operation of three successful commercial radio stations in Ireland is uncovered.
